Paid parental leave to be extended to six months by 2026

Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says the government’s announcement to extend paid parental leave allows Labor to have a “good news announcement” prior to a budget expected to have “more cuts than anything”.
“And it rewards the female vote which enabled Labor to get to power,” Mr Clennell said.
“The announcement means from 2024 to 2026 the scheme will be extended from 20 weeks to 26 weeks.”
Mr Clennell said this was a big issue that emerged from the government’s Jobs and Skills summit at the beginning of September.
“Those eligible are those who earn less than $156,000 a year.
“This particularly helps people who work for small businesses.”
